Full EnglishWell, what a fabulous day that was at the Ace Cafe Overland day. Sunshine, relatively warm and the biggest crowd I’ve seen at the event. The staff at the Ace Cafe did us all proud! Thanks to Mark and Linda and to Vasilis. And I absolutely must make a mention of the staff in the kitchens. No visit to the Ace Cafe should be kicked off without tucking into one of their Full English Breakfasts!
Chris Scott, Graham Field, Birgit and yours truly14 exhibitors and a raft of travel scribes including Zoe Cano, Graham Field (who announce the imminent launch of his new book ‘Different Natures’), plus overlanding experts Chris Scott and Austin Vince. I was delighted to see Elspeth Beard, the first British woman to ride solo round the world. And Tiffany Coates, one of the most prolific British female motorcycle adventurers.
High spots of the day? It was as if a huge family of overlanding enthusiasts had got together. Yep, family! In between book signing I spent the whole day chatting. Fantastic. So many friends and so many overlanding bikes there to look at – the full range – C90s right eh way up to the big boys.
The Ozzies have arrivedThe second? Riders coming from as far afield as Wales, Cornwall, Scotland, Holland, Belgium, Russia, and Australia. This duo had literally just arrived in the UK.
The third big high was Rob Archibald setting off around the world – on his 125cc, and Daren Carter setting off around the world on his old mate – his trusty GS. I wish I could bottle the feeling they were having as their big rides started. Wonderful. Everyone gave them a fantastic send off.
